By 1920 Thomas and Margaret are living on Edwards Road and Martha Romzek is shown as "adopted daughter" on the 1920 census with her name listed as Martha O'Neil. Martha married William Gilchrist on 07 November 1923 in Ruth, Michigan with Joseph Artman and Theresa Artman listed as the witnesses. Harold met her when she came to visit his grandparents while he was staying with them in the early thirties.

SHERMAN RESIDENT HANGS SELF OVER HIS ILL HEALTH

Ill health is given as the reason for Thomas O'Neil, Sr., 81, taking his life last Monday afternoon. The body was found hanging in the barn at his farm in Sherman Township, one-half mile west of White Rock, by Whitlow Reid, son-in-law of the dead man, and George Hill.

Coroner Joshua Morgan, this city, was called and he pronounced it a case of suicide. Worry over ill health was given as the cause for his rash act.

Funeral services were held on Thursday morning in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruth, at nine o'clock. Burial was made in the Ruth church cemetery. Rev. Fr. Frank Kaufmann, pastor of the church officiated at both services.

Mr. O'Neil was born in Watson, Ont., and had lived in this county since he was nine years of age. All of his life since coming to this country had bent spent in Sherman township except three years he was a resident of Harbor Beach.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret O'Neil; two son, Thomas O'Neil, Jr., of near Harbor Beach and Joseph O'Neil, Ruth; three daughters, Mrs. Anthony Pohl of Helena, Mrs. Louis White, Clawson and Mrs Margaret Reid, White Rock; a brother James O'Neil, Detroit; a half-brother, John Lancaster, Sandusky; 27 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
